After 17 years, Annie Mac hosted her final show on BBC Radio 1 on July 30th.

After announcing her departure in April, the beloved and legendary DJ Annie Mac recently broadcasted her final show. BBC Radio 1’s Dance Party is one of the most important shows in the history of dance music and has become a staple amongst fans of dance music for almost 2 decades.

Mac joined Radio 1 as an assistant producer before hosting her own show in 2004 called “The Mash Up.” She has created an impressive catalogue through her time, including an interview with Rihanna.

For the fans of electronic music though, never fear, because BBC Radio 1 launched a 24 hour stream dedicated to dance tracks called BBC Radio 1 Dance.

Through her show, Annie Mac constantly highlighted different combinations of pop, EDM, and classical genres. She has played many mainstays within electronic music, including Disclosure, Mella Dee, Boys Noize, and Axwell.

Prior to the broadcast, Mac took to Twitter and asked her fans their favorite tracks she has played- the 2 hour show features many of these. She ended the show with DJ Rolando’s ‘Knights of the Jaguar’ which is one of her all-time top songs.

“There’s one thing I’ve forgotten to say, as a 43-year-old woman, life is short, it goes by really, really fast, it thunders by,” Mac said in a final message to her audience. “If you like the music, you gotta get up and dance. Just do it.”
