Exron Music: How does it feel to be performing at The Brooklyn Mirage tonight?

Lamorn: It feels amazing. On the plane ride over here I was just looking out the window when we were coming over New York City and I was just like wow this is real. I wouldn’t have thought I would be here a year ago and it’s just really exciting. It’s fun to think about all the adventures I’ll have and all the things I have to look forward.

Exron Music: So what happened over the last year that brought you to this point?

Lamorn: During the pandemic I was working on a lot of new music and writing new songs and I learned a lot during that time. I was discovered by deadmau5, signed to mau5trap, and then I got set up with my manager and was working remotely with him for awhile. We didn’t actually get to meet in person until a few months ago because of everything but I do also feel like I learned a lot during that time.

Exron Music: How did you get started with your career in music? Tell us about your background in guitar, bass, and drums.

Lamorn: I was very interested in music as a kid. When I was 12 or so, I got into music production and I wanted to learn guitar because I thought it would help me with it. I went to a place called School of Rock, it’s just like the movie, they put me in a band of kids and we got to play cover songs. I met a lot of friends that way and joined some rock bands and played a lot of shows that way. That definitely helped me learn how to perform and have energy on stage.

The whole time I was primarily interested in electronic music like Daft Punk and deadmau5, I used to set up in my living room like I thought a DJ would do with the controller and I would play along to their songs. When I got into production I was focused on electronic music and then rock music also took it’s own turn. I think it’s been really good for me to have experience in different genres because I can incorporate all of those elements into my music like play the guitar or keyboard.

Exron Music: What is it like to be considered deadmau5’s musical protege and to be signed to mau5trap? What do you think this means for the future of your career?

Lamorn: It’s hard to process it all. I really never thought I would come close to a position like this, it was definitely always a goal to release a song on mau5trap but it all so quickly and now I’m here just trying to enjoy it all.

Exron Music: You recently released your debut single “Physical Layer” on mau5trap on the same day you debuted your live show alongside deadmau5 in your hometown. How surreal was that day for you?

Lamorn: Oh, that day was crazy. I had so much adrenaline and excitement before the show. It really couldn’t have gone better though, my whole family was there and the venue was only 15 minutes from my house so it was really special. My grandparents, cousins, friends, and all kinds of people in my life were there. It was probably one of the best days of my life.

Exron Music: You’ve released a handful of remixes recently for ATTLAS’ “Half Light” and Deadmau5 and Kiesza’s “Bridged By A Lightwave”. What was it about these tracks that made you want to create your own rendition?

Lamorn: For the ATTLAS remix, I saw that he was doing a remix competition so I figured that we would be a good opportunity. It was the first remix I’d ever done and I just went in on it and made it my own. For “Bridged By A Lightwave”, my manager approached me and asked if I would want to remix the track and I said of course. I’m probably the most proud of that one out of anything I’ve done.

Exron Music: Do you have any rituals while making music that help the ideas flow? What is your creative process like?

Lamorn: I’ve learned to spend more time away from the computer then at the computer, I’m not much of a brute force guy. A lot of my inspiration comes from listening to music, having life experiences, and spending time with my friends and family. That’s the way it’s really been sustainable for my mental state because it always goes up and down. You can have huge confidence spikes and then times when you aren’t feeling good about anything. I think it translates to anyone doing anything creative. You gotta go with the creative bursts and if it’s not happening then just step away.

Exron Music: What are your goals for the rest of the year? Any upcoming plans or releases you can share with us at this time?

Lamorn: Yeah I have a new single coming out in August, followed by another single and then an EP before the end of the year. I have probably like 30 songs I’m working on right now so I’m hoping for some albums in the future. As far as goals, I’m just trying to play as many shows as I can and make my live set the best it can possibly be and take advantage of a great opportunity.
