WHY GORGON CITY’S ‘OLYMPIA’ COULD BE THE ALBUM OF THE YEAR – [LISTEN]

DJ DUO DROP KILLER FULL LENGTH ALBUM

With so much time on their hands during 2020’s hiatus, artists put their moments of stillness to work, narrowing their scope of focus to create, making lemonade out of lemons. The English duo Gorgon City followed the trend, spending those long hours in the studio to deliver fans a full length album nothing short of fabulous.

“Olympia” mixes the trendy 90’s era of house blending with 2020’s hottest sounds, pop and house. The album showcases features from artists such as Aura James, Josh Barry, Sofi Tukker, DRAMA, and many others. In addition to being the fruit’s of Covid’s labor, the LP is a compilation of the duo’s work over the last past five years – pay close attention whilst listening, for these tracks were perviously unreleased festival favorites. With this full length release, the music digs deeper. It fleshes out the emotions, the food for thought, behind Gorgon City’s life experiences.

The LP, comprised of nearly 20 songs, is refreshing with a luminous, bright energy. The opening track “Tell Me It’s True” is uplifting and the perfect commencement to the the thoughtful exploration of house to come. The tracks range from soulful and funky to hypnotically house and even a little sorrowful at times. “Body Language” is particularly melodic, a stand out amongst the group, as well as the previously released “Burning.” The finale, “Freedom (with Josh Barry)” express a soulful longing of autonomy, closing the journey with a crescendo followed by a pensive calm.

In the wild, I'm most often spotted at immersive art spaces, step tappin' in a shadowed corner of the club, hater blockerz on, totally incognito as your resident EDM spice girl. Although I generally tout my spicy side, if there's one thing I'd love to impress upon the world, it would be this: it's not a waste to give love to those who do not deserve it – it's a gift. The world would be a better place if we gave, in kindness and in mercy, to those who need it most with no expectation in return.
