Belgium DJ Can Guru? Drops Haunting House Single – [Listen]

INSPIRED BY ENGLAND’S RAVE SCENE, EXECUTED VIA PIANO PLUNKS

Belgium DJ Can Guru?, also known as Colin Crichton, might turn tables by night these days, but in his formative years he came from musical household. After exploring all types of music throughout his childhood, he eventually decided to pursue a career in the space, moving to Manchester to study Sound Engineering at Salford University. Post his University education, Can Guru? went on to perform in bands and then at clubs, eventually getting deep into the Manchester rave scene.

Most recently Can Guru? dropped a single titled “Winner Today,” a piano-based electronic, ominous beat. Although Can Guru? has had many radical musicians/groups influence and inspire his sound, some of his top favorites include The Chemical Brothers, Aphex Twins, 808 State, Gorillaz, and Hot Chip. As best seen in the music video for “Winner Today,” his aesthetic is like grunge band meets My Chemical Romance meets London Pub, something refreshing, different, and reminiscent of every millennial’s glorious middle school scene phase.

This particular single was inspired by Can Guru?’s reflections upon failure, an extremely difficult topic in our fast-paced world of growth, capitalism, and social media’s meritoriousness. Crichton shares with listeners, “The song is about the ups and downs of winning one day and maybe losing it all the next, but never to give up on your dreams and ambitions. Always getting back up after you fall over.”

“Winner Today,” written in the thick woods just beyond the city limits of Berlin, reflects the dark scenery of its inception. Crichton coos, “I am braving the storm and the mighty heavy weathers.” With this unique beat, production, and sound, we’re excited to see more of Can Guru? and look forward to his future releases!

Heralding from sunny South Florida, I am a proud Florida Woman. In my free time, I surf the swamp, wrangle gators, open fan mail, and tend to my pets. In the wild, I'm most often spotted at immersive art spaces, step tappin' in a shadowed corner of the club, hater blockerz on, totally incognito as your resident EDM spice girl. Although I generally tout my spicy side, if there's one thing I'd love to impress upon the world, it would be this: it's not a waste to give love to those who do not deserve it – it's a gift. The world would be a better place if we gave, in kindness and in mercy, to those who need it most with no expectation in return.

What's your reaction?
