PORTER ROBINSON PROVIDES DETAILED INSIGHT INTO HIS STRUGGLE TO PRODUCE NEW MUSIC BEFORE ‘NURTURE’ – [READ]
Established creative force Porter Robinson sits down for an exclusive interview with renowned outlet NME to discuss his latest 14-track album ‘Nurture’.
Acclaimed musician Porter Robinson recently sat down to chat with NME about his life as of recent, as well as his latest full-length album ‘Nurture‘. After the immense success of 2014’s ‘Worlds’, Robinson’s eventual follow-up was highly anticipated, leaving many on the edge of their seat as to what would come next and when.
Feeling overwhelmed, the artist fell into a depression that he felt in many aspects was crippling. Speaking to NME’s Ben Jolley, Robinson states he “felt convinced that [he] wouldn’t be able to ever make music again”. Pivoting stylistically from the high-octane tone of his previous side endeavor, Virtual Self, he now finds himself leaning toward a more subtle, organic approach to his artistry, finding inspiration for the new album from nature, ambient music, as well as pop.

Opting for embracing reality as is, Robinson sets aside the escapist themes that were heavily present in his ‘Worlds’ album seven years ago. Starting off his career, he would often find himself frustrated at not being where he wanted to be exactly, in turn making him miss out on life. Now, he fully engages with the everyday flow of his life with pleasure.
He also felt the need to incorporate instrumentation into his music, leaving the side the formulaic bass drops and hefty, hard-hitting dance music production elements of his prior work. He tells NME that for his latest album he now uses “more samples and less synths” to create a resonating effect with the listener.

His latest offering is replete with impassioned emotion, and sonically tells the story that Robinson set out for it to — one full of happiness, sadness, and all the in-between. His singing abilities are also noteworthy, and are pitched just high enough to create an otherwordly, ethereal-sounding ambiance.
