After almost three decades legendary Daft Punk announces split in a cryptic video message.

The end of an era is truly here. Music legends Daft Punk announced their split with an 8-minute video titled “Epilogue,” which is an excerpt from their 2006 film Electroma.

Formed in Paris in 1993, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo changed the course of electronic music forever. Their 1997 debut album Homework was a music landmark that introduced iconic singles “Around the World” and “Da Funk”.

In 2001, Daft Punk dropped their follow-up album Discovery. This masterpiece gave birth to “One More Time” and “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” which solidified their dance music stardom forever.

12 years later the duo decided to remind everyone who they were blowing up once again with their lead single, “Get Lucky” from their Random Access Memories album.

The track garnered millions of sold copies and won two Grammys for the duo and featured artist Nile Rodgers and Pharrell Williams. Random Access Memories later won a whopping three Grammys including Album of the Year.

Daft Punk’s goal was “to make music breathe again” and in doing so broke new fronts in mainstream music while providing spectacular visuals. These two Frenchmen used the aspect of mystery by preserving their identity with futuristic getups to add intention to their music.

“Looking at robots is not like looking at an idol. It’s not a human being, so it’s more like a mirror- the energy people send to the stage bounces back and everybody has a good time together rather than focusing on us.” –Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo

Once the news broke it shook the dance music community. Daft punk is a pivotal cornerstone to the electronic community and a huge inspiration for many popular artists today.

Some artists simply shared their appreciation, while others paid tribute by sharing how Daft Punk shaped their careers. The outpour of love and respect for the duo will forever carry on their legacy.
