SEVEN LIONS SUBVERTS EXPECTATIONS WITH TRANCE-INFUSED ‘1999’ EP – [LISTEN]
Today, melodic dubstep titan, Jeff Montalvo (Seven Lions), briefly halted his bass music release schedule to make way for his highly-awaited trance remix EP ‘1999.’
The retrospective project signals a temporary departure from the artist‘s festival melodic bass ballads to expand upon the sound that burst the multi-genre producer to the forefront of electronic music. The 6-track EP is comprised entirely of his original music and collaborations, including hits like: “Rush Over Me” (ft.HALIENE), “Higher Love” with Jason Ross, “Worlds Apart” and “Days To Come.”
The project combines two vastly different electronic music styles in a cohesive and memorable manner. The remix compilation is an excellent starting point for bass heads who want to dive into the late 90s/ early 2000s sounds that fueled European raves and trance-enthusiasts who were not previously familiarized with Seven Lions’ music.
Among the six tracks included in the release, two of them are extended mixes of “Rush Over Me” and “Worlds Apart.” In traditional trance fashion, the songs both clock in at over five minutes long, and feature multiple evolving midsections and uplifting synths.
Montalvo’s artistic vision of creating something new by showcasing the best features of dubstep and trance is shown by this passion project and a heartfelt love letter to electronic music. What originally stemmed from a realization that both styles of music shared the same beats per minute (BPM), grew into a successful and unique project.
The iconic artist has come a long way from winning a Beatport contest in 2012 and remixing other producer’s songs. In 2021 Seven Lions boasts several prestigious festival bookings, chart-topping tunes, and growing his very own record label, Ophelia Records. There is no denying his influence on bass music’s innate talent, you can bet he’ll be back to headlining ways once concerts return in full force.
