KOBE BRYANT’S LEGACY IS REMEMBERED BY THE EDM COMMUNITY – [READ]

After a year since the unfortunate passing of basketball legend Kobe Bryant, members of the EDM community take time to reflect on the impact he had.

The course of the pandemic has made time seem nonlinear. Our view of the world has changed. Dramatic events grasped our attention, but we rarely had enough time to process the reality of these events. This holds especially true for the untimely passing of Kobe Bryant.

The loss the world was dealt with on January 26th, 2020 was unfathomable for many. A catastrophic helicopter crash that took Kobe, his daughter, Gigi, and seven others are still being processed a year later.

Kobe’s legacy is rooted in his skills and talent on the court, but his “mamba mentality” extends far off the court. From featuring on a Brian Mcknight song to writing an Academy-Award winning short film, Kobe’s eclectic interests are evidence that he used his many mediums to touch the heart’s of people.

Artists from around the globe expressed their love for the mamba on the anniversary of his passing. From the likes of Steve Aoki, Valentino Khan, and Sullivan King, it’s evident that Kobe is still in the hearts of many.

We also saw a post from his former teammate, Shaquille O’Neal. Shaq may have had a conflict on the court with Kobe, but at the end of the day, they were comrades who had a great deal of respect and love for one another. The acclaimed center has also managed to cross paths into the world of DJing, performing at festivals under the pseudonym, DJ Diesel

While we may never get to see Kobe play on the court again or coach a team to victory, his legacy will continue to be carried by his fans and foundations. The Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation provides opportunities for children in low economic situations to experience sports and arts programs. Who knows, maybe one of these attendants could be your next festival headliner.
