Australia’s Gold Coast Vibez Festival came to a quick close after police broke up a drunken brawl at the event over the holiday weekend.
Gold Coast Vibez took place on Stradbroke Island in Queensland this past weekend, although it didn’t last long at all. According to 10 News First Queensland, police were forced to use pepper spray on festival attendees after a fight broke out. There was clearly no social distancing.

The beach festival featured various hip hop and RNB artists as a way to celebrate Australia Day weekend. People gathered for what they thought would be a carefree weekend in the sand. The organizers and attendees may have had good intentions, but unfortunately, a few ruined it for everyone.
Despite security’s best attempts to diffuse the situation, the brawl overflowed into the event’s Queensland Ambulance medical tent. Additional officers even had to be ferried over to the island to finally get the fight under control and transport patrons back to the mainland.
7News Australia reports that those involved in the brawl appeared “drunk, angry, and out of control.” The plot thickens—a man aboard the ferry back to the mainland bumped a control lever, causing the boat to scrape against a pier.
At this time, no arrests have been made. However, such a dangerous and chaotic situation raises questions. The event organizer’s liquor licensing and COVID-19 safety plan compliance are under investigation.
