MAKZO INTRODUCES INSPIRING DEBUT EP ‘ANECDOTES’ – [LISTEN]

Toronto-based producer Makzo introduces his debut EP Anecdotes via Chillhop Music. The 6-track EP is a heartfelt exploration of sound, texture, and atmosphere. Each song evokes a unique energy and mood, demonstrative of Makzo’s versatile production capabilities.

Anecdotes is more than just an EP; it’s a vivid expression of Makzo’s personal life. In this capacity, each track is an audial representation of a profound memory in his lifetime, hence the title, Anecdotes. This collection was released in hopes that it can trigger a specific reminiscence for the listener, too.

Dazzled with lush synths, piano chords, guitar riffs, cinematic strings, crisp drums, percussion, and dense bass, Anecdotes propels listeners through another dimension. Blending elements of hip-hop, R&B, and electronic music, Makzo’s sound undoubtedly draws on inspiration from artists including Ta-ku, 9th Wonder, J Dilla, Mr. Carmack, and many more.

Anecdotes softly leads in and sets the tone with “Hereafter” before “Seascape” picks up the pace, evoking a nostalgic mood. “Melancholy” stays true to its title, developing a gloomy yet electrifying sound.

Next, the collection offers “Oasis,” which effortlessly elicits feelings of sublimity, nature, and peace. Continuing with the sentimental vibes, “Longing” is a mesmeric, feel-good anthem that hypnotizes listeners all the way through. Finally, Anecdotes is rounded out with “Departure,” a magical tune decorated with delicate guitar strokes.

Zack Mortimer, a.k.a. Makzo, is known for putting a modern, electronic twist on an old school production style, best highlighted in his new EP. In its entirety, Anecdotes is a culmination of Makzo’s deepest memories and immeasurable talent.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
