ESSEKS + SHANGHAI DOOM COME TOGETHER FOR TANTALIZING EP ‘SOUL STONE’ – LISTEN

Two of the hottest names in the experimental bass genre, Esseks and Shanghai Doom have come together to create a mind-bending two-track EP titled Soul Stone. The EP has appropriately been released on Liquid Stranger‘s Wakaan label. When played out for a crowd, Soul Stone is sure to melt listeners into oblivion.

Soul Stone consists of two wondrous and intriguing tracks: “Soul Stone” followed by “Infinite Energy”. “Soul Stone” leads in with a methodical, forbidding build that accumulates into a bold, awe-inspiring drop. The song carefully highlights both artists’ broad production capabilities. The second track, “Infinite Energy” features much more aggressive bass lines. It doesn’t waste any time commanding audiences with its massive force of extraterrestrial bass. “Infinite Energy” is a stark representation of each artists’ production tenacity.

Esseks is a Brooklyn-based producer and visual artist. He’s known for his firm grip on all bass-centric genres, with a focus on the off-kilter. Although his unique sound is subtle, it is instantly recognizable and pairs effortlessly with his visual aesthetic. The artist would call it dark yet playful, or “Cartoon Villain music”, in his words.

Hailing from the urban streets of central New Jersey, Shanghai Doom is a producer duo known for their tracks “Contact” and “Invasion”. By combining ripping mechanized audio with mind-boggling exquisite sub frequencies, the pair have earned the nickname “lizard men” from fans. Two years ago, Shanghai Doom sent a flash drive with their SoundCloud spotlight tracks to a distant planet suspected to have extraterrestrial life forms inhabiting it. The two patiently wait for their overlords to return the message, however, some conspiracy theorists state that they are actually the overlords themselves, sent through a vortex time warp to share the exotic sounds of an alien race.

Listen to Esseks’ and Shanghai Doom’s new Soul Stone EP below, but beware of the alien abduction risk.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
