RE-EXPERIENCE RL GRIME’S MOST SPINE-CHILLING HALLOWEEN MIX YET – [WATCH]

For all the plur princesses, wooks, and bass heads out there, spooky season doesn’t just signify the onslaught of spook, but rather the count down to RL Grime’s annual, and infamous, Halloween mix. This year’s mix, Halloween IX, debuted on Twitch, an online streaming platform once monopolized for gaming but now utilized heavily by DJs post-Covid. Usually, Grime’s Halloween mixes debut on SoundCloud, however, Grime began a new tradition this year with the implementation of Twitch, and most importantly, visuals.

Although prior Halloween mixes never lacked, it would be hard to imagine future mixes without the visuals, which were trippy, introspective, artistic, and bizarre. Some sections were optical illusions, while others featured dark protagonist forms roaming forests, exploring lunar terrain, fleeing from leech-like night-crawlers, and spectacular visions from our worst nightmarish fantasies. There were excerpts from classic Halloween thrillers, clips from the Twilight Zone, multiverse and third eye motifs, and even narrations by T-Pain and goosebumps author RL Stein. Per usual, Grime mainly mixed rap and hip hop beats, reimagining them with his palate for body rattling, mind-melting drops, and electronic funk.

Grime represents the best of EDM, as an artist with a voice, fine-tuned taste, and something to say. His mind is a playground of haunt, and a wonderland of cacophonous, yet controlled, disruptions of normalcy. And although it has been merely three days since Halloween IX’s drop, the count down for next year’s spook-phonic mix veraciously commences.

Heralding from sunny South Florida, I am a proud Florida Woman. In my free time, I surf the swamp, wrangle gators, open fan mail, and tend to my pets. In the wild, I'm most often spotted at immersive art spaces, step tappin' in a shadowed corner of the club, hater blockerz on, totally incognito as your resident EDM spice girl. Although I generally tout my spicy side, if there's one thing I'd love to impress upon the world, it would be this: it's not a waste to give love to those who do not deserve it – it's a gift. The world would be a better place if we gave, in kindness and in mercy, to those who need it most with no expectation in return.
