GRAMATIK TEAMS UP WITH LUXAS FOR CINEMATIC COMPILATION “CYBERPUNK 2020”- [LISTEN]

Gramatik is changing it up a bit with his most recent releases, by teaming up with former collaborator Luxas for “Cyberpunk 2020”. The two talented producers had an idea for a very interesting and unique project; a soundtrack for the year 2020 if it was a Cyberpunk movie. Released on Gramatik’s label Lowtemp, the 17-song album was made entirely from analogue and modular synthesizers, giving the collection an atmospheric, mysterious and science fiction feel.

Gramatik on Cyberpunk: “Luxas and I had the idea to score some of the key world events of 2020 as if they were scenes unfolding in a slow-paced cyberpunk thriller. This is our soundtrack to the film that never was.”

Knowing Gramatik’s knack for comedy, one could assume this album is making a mockery of the dramatic and somewhat unbelievable events that have occurred in this year.

Both Gramatik and Luxas are huge movie fans, with films like The Matrix, Blade Runner and A Clockwork Orange providing the inspiration for this collaboration. The guys wanted the album to guide listeners through the ebbs and flows of the year 2020, evoking emotions and memories, though possibly not pleasant, along the way.

Interestingly, this is not the first time these artists have worked on film scores together. They’ve composed quite a few tracks for movies over the years including Autonomous, an animated short that tells the dystopian tale about wild motorcycle gangs in a futuristic setting. This film, which features an entirely original score from Gramatik and Luxas and is directed by Joe Sill, can be seen below:

The album is majestic and evolving, evoking a sense of wonder and mystique with each growing single. Turn this on when you would like some real introspection to happen, for it is quite literally the soundtrack of your life in 2020.
