NEW FACEBOOK RULES RESTRICTS MUSICIANS FROM PERFORMING LIVE-STREAMED EVENTS
It has been over 6 grueling months since COVID-19 has come to stay cancelling events far and wide. The pandemic has brought the entertainment and music industry to a screeching halt forcing artists to adapt and transition to live-streamed events using social platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitch, and Youtube.
However, starting on October 1st Facebook has announced a new set of rules that will restrict musicians from producing “videos on our Products to create a music listening experience.”
Facebook, who also owns Instagram, explained that they want the primary use of their technology to be used to connect family and friends to one another, not to connect musicians to their fans. Additionally, Facebook threatens to remove videos and possible account deletion for those who fail to comply.
See Facebook’s full statement below:
“You may not use videos on our Products to create a music listening experience. We want you to be able to enjoy videos posted by family and friends. However, if you use videos on our Products to create a music listening experience for yourself or for others, your videos will be blocked and your page, profile or group may be deleted. This includes Live.”
