RL GRIME STUNS WITH SABLE VALLEY SUMMER ARTIST COMPILATION
This past weekend, RL Grime’s record label Sable Valley debuted its first compilation, featuring Grime himself and a slew of talented cohorts including Whethan, Holly, Lemay, and many more. Grime unveiled Sable Valley in 2019, to the unbridled excitement of those familiar with Grime’s work, artistry, and unique perspective on music.
Although majority of this release’s content is new, fans might recognize “Hallow Tips” by Effin as a track featured on Grime’s most recent Halloween mixtape. Although most of the compilation is fresh content, the music feels like an old friend, like a welcomed instance of deja vu. The complication embodies Grime’s signature spook – that eerie, unnerving, sends-goosebumps-down-your-spine, type of wub and dub. Some stand out tracks off the album include “Outta Here” by Whethan, “Swoopin” by Baauer, and “All Push, No Pull” by Jon Casey, and “Worlds” by Heimanu, each eye-catching and hegemonic in their own special, spooky way. As a whole, the body of work is hauntingly thrilling and, for Sable Valley’s debut compilation, promising to say the least.
