THE CHAINSMOKERS’ DRIVE-IN RAVE CULMINATES CORONAVIRUS CONCERNS

Electronic and pop duo, Drew Taggart and Alex Pall, better known as The Chainsmokers held a charity “drive-in” concert in The Hamptons this past Saturday. Ironically titled Safe & Sound, the event turned out to be the complete opposite. Although precautions were taken, such as temperature checks for attendees prior to them entering the venue, the distribution of face masks, and the placement of sanitizing stations throughout the perimeter of the concert there are concerns about the events that transpired at the event. A viral video circulated throughout social media that reveals the absence of social distancing and the lack of concern of the attendee’s safety.

This video raised a lot of disturbing concerns and questions as to why the town of Southampton granted a permit for this event. As a result, The New York Health Department and NY Governor Cuomo issued an open investigation into the event and the organizations behind it. The event, Safe & Sound, was intended to do good, as the purpose was for charity. Tickets ranged between $850- $25,000, with the proceeds set to benefit organizations such as No Kid Hungry, Southampton Fresh Air Home, and The Children’s Medical Fund of New York but it created some backlash because of the estimated 2,000 concert-goers that attended. The crowd did not maintain social distancing, risking it all while the US continues to face an uphill battle with COVID-19.
