CARL COX TRANSFORMS DEADMAU5 AND THE NEPTUNE’S TRACK ‘POMEGRANATE’ INTO A CERTIFIED TECHNO BANGER – [LISTEN]

Deadmau5 and The Neptunes’ latest track ‘Pomegranate’ has gotten the techno treatment courtesy of none other than Carl Cox himself! Released at the tail end of this May to much critical acclaim, it was about time before it got an official remix. Thankfully, with the King of Ibiza at the helm, it was executed flawlessly. The track directly follows Cox’s recent rework of Hannah Wants and Kevin Knapp’s song ‘Call Me’, released mid-May of this year. Out now on mau5trap, the Carl Cox remix of Deadmau5 and the Neptunes’ ‘Pomegranate’ is available to listen to across all streaming platforms. Make sure to check out the official video for the remix below!

The original tune’s funky, groovy basslines, slower tempo, and resonantly profound lyrics, courtesy of Chad Hugo and Pharrell, allowed its mellow vibe to seep in ever-so slowly. Carl Cox turns that on its head, and instead doles out a four-on-the-floor, electrifying interpretation of the approximately six-minute sonic endeavor. Shimmering synths and an unyielding beat characterize much of the release, hypnotizing the listener and leaving them wanting more from the esteemed techno stalwart.

In all, Cox’s latest is primed and ready to be rinsed out in the wee hours fo the morning on cavernous techno dance floors across the globe when they return once again. His infectious signature rhythm re-energizes ‘Pomegranate’ in all the best ways possible.

Check out what Carl Cox had to say about the track himself, “Pharrell’s vocals are all fantastic which made remixing it quite difficult, but I knew my mix had to stand up on its own and I wanted to do something conceptual. I sped it up to 128 bpm to give it that techno feel – I really wanted that power of sound to create something for a festival or club sound system. The chorus lines have this Prodigy-esque sub bass line tones and break beat – and that’s a Carl Cox sound: a good kick, a good break beat, and good bass tones. That mixed with Pharrell’s vocals and the sprinkling of The Neptunes and deadmau5’ vibe – and I’m very proud of it.”
