DIRTYBIRD TRACK MAKES AN IMPACT DURING DETROIT BLACK LIVES MATTER PROTEST
Exactly one week ago, the music industry took a collective stand and participated in blackout Tuesday to support the ongoing Black Lives Matter movement. A wide array of artists, record labels, streaming platforms, and blogs have stood up to our industry’s core values of peace, love, unity, and respect through their actions. Many have donated millions of dollars to the cause and continue to use their massive social media following to promote the many ways for fans to fight for racial inequality following George Floyd’s unfortunate death.
This revolution has shown the electronic dance music community’s true colors, a community always striving to make everyone feel welcome at all times. Many groups of protesters in dance music prominent cities have been using the power of music as a way to peacefully showcase these values and fight for justice, something we support wholeheartedly. Over the weekend, one video, in particular, went viral which is a prime example of what this community is all about.
Claude Vonstroke‘s Dirtybird house and techno label has been a significant supporter of the BLM movement, and Dirtybird fans have also followed in its footsteps. At a recent protest in Detroit, the birthplace of techno music, activists proudly marched through the streets while blasting a take it to the streets edit of Bruno Furlan’s Dirtybird track “Line Five” in the background. The edit changes the track’s original lyrics to highlight the “no justice, no peace” statement in a unique and lively manner.
Of course, Dirtybird reacted to this viral video in the most positive manner and didn’t hesitate to promote this type of radiating energy on their socials. This video is what rave culture is all about, and it was incredible to watch others join in and dance freely along the way of this eventful, tech-house filled Black Lives Matter protest. This movement just proves yet again that music truly has the potential to change the world.
