DIPLO’S COUNTRY ALBUM RECEIVES HARSH CRITICISM
2020 has brought us many strange, far-fetched, incomprehensible things. Right at the very top of that list is Diplo dabbling in country music. For years, he has remained a frontrunner in the scene with all of his ideas, no matter how outlandish they were. However, this country music gig may not be able to live up to the artist’s past success.
Diplo Presents Thomas Wesley Chapter 1: Snake Oil features a laundry list of stars from every musical genre. Included are the Jonas Brothers, Young Thug, Zac Brown, Thomas Rhett, Noah Cyrus, and even a remix to Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” with Billy Ray Cyrus.
The world renowned DJ and producer has his own reasons as to why he dropped the album, but NME wrote an extremely harsh review of it. The publication comments, “That’s because at its heart, this isn’t a country album at all; rather it’s an excuse for Diplo to wear some razzle-dazzle Nudie Cohn-style suits and fancy cowboy hats.”
Yikes, it looks like Thomas Wesley a.k.a. Diplo has been called out. NME goes on, “Turns out Thomas Wesley really is just Diplo having a laugh in the dressing-up cupboard – nothing more.”
On the contrary, Diplo wholeheartedly believes this is the best music he’s ever created. He even said so in an Instagram post, “It should not make sense but it’s definitely the best album I’ve ever made. I promise. Even my mom and dad told me so.”
Despite the harsh criticism, Diplo moves forward with an admirable sense of confidence. At the very least, he’s living out his dreams. Listen to Diplo Presents Thomas Wesley Chapter 1: Snake Oil below and let us know your thoughts!
