ZHU SHARES ELECTRIFYING SINGLE ‘ONLY’ WITH TINASHE – [LISTEN]

Since emerging from the underground in 2014 with ‘Faded’, Zhu has garnered a massive global fanbase. The king of deep house (and just about everything else, i.e. fashion) has finally dropped his eagerly anticipated single ‘Only’ with R&B singer Tinashe. Out now on Astralwerks, this track fuses two distinct vocalists into a mystifying melody that feels otherworldly.

‘Only’ is introduced by a guitar progression layered with Zhu’s sultry vocals. As the infectious beat catches a spark, and it’s not long before Tinashe’s seductive lyrics take shape. Zhu utilizes contrasting themes such as light and darkness as well as calmness and chaos to set the song’s eerie atmosphere.

The track is also paired with a music video that intensifies the lingering element of mystery. In the midst of a global lockdown, both Zhu and Tinashe are pictured through windows in a downtown loft. Although they are both alone, each are quite aware of the other’s presence. Using binoculars to spy on each other, the video explores a risqué theme.

His 2019 hit single ‘Came For The Low’ with partywithray was also released by Astralwerks. However, Zhu’s release of ‘Only’ on Astralwerks marks his first official release since signing with the label earlier this year.  On various occasions, the Grammy-nominated producer has also promised fans a new album to be out in 2020.

In addition to her irresistible voice, Tinashe has a long history of industry success. Her skills involve producing, mixing, engineering, creative directing, and editing. Recently, she’s enlisted the likes of G-Eazy, 6lack, Ms. Banks, and other big names for her latest studio album, Song For You.

As if the song and video aren’t enough, the artist has dropped a brand new merch line specific to the new track. The exclusive line features face masks, aloe hand sanitizer, t-shirts, a hoodie, a kimono, pillows, and much more. The items are available on Zhu’s merch website.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
