EXRON EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: GL0BAL

If you haven’t heard of Gl0bal yet, it might be time to put this rising star on your radar. His new single “WYN” (Watch Your Neck) recently made a home on Circus Records, although this might not be the first time you’ve heard it. The ruthless track has been commanding crowds for some time already, being played out by Excision among other heavy hitters.

Although “WYN” is a fresh release, this isn’t Gl0bal’s first run with Circus. The promising artist signed with the label in 2019 while subsequently dropping a 4-track EP titled Insomnia. His signature soundscape encompasses a bass heavy trap vibe, which “WYN” so effortlessly embodies. Not to mention, elements of hip hop are also clearly woven throughout his body of work.

Gl0bal is not someone you’d want to let get away without asking him some questions first. His multitude of releases regularly receive support from DJ Snake, The Chainsmokers, and Dillon Francis, to name a few. Luckily, we got the chance to dig a little deeper into the life and work of the Canadian producer.

———-

Exron Music: Why Circus? What drew you to the label?

Gl0bal: Honestly, I would have to say their label manager was the guy that “pulled” me in. I had been sending him music for some time and out of all of the A&R’s I have been in contact with he would critique my music, give me honest feedback, and had a genuine interest in my music. Once I honed my skills a bit more it just made the most sense to go with them for these releases.

Exron Music: You signed to Circus almost a year ago to release your Insomnia EP. How do you think you’ve grown as an artist since then?

Gl0bal: I think I have grown a fair bit in a year, it’s crazy how times flies. I have become more comfortable with how my music should sound and have become better at identifying what a Gl0bal record is – if that makes sense.

Exron Music: What do you think sets you apart from other artists in the bass scene?

Gl0bal: I believe my determination and persistence are what set me apart from other acts in the bass scene and I’m into so many different styles of music so my sound will never just be the same. Lastly,  I always say that I’m a DJ first, producer second. I’ve been DJing for years before transitioning heavy into production. So when it comes to live shows I’m fairly confident I can spin with the best of them.

Exron Music: Your music has been played out on main stages by some big names in the industry. Which artist’s support means the most to you? Why?

Global: I would have to say Excision support means the most right now and that’s because we are from the same city and it hits closer to home. Excision is undoubtedly one of the biggest DJs in the world regardless of genre but for me when I started DJing everyone would talk about Excision in my city. So to know that he’s consistently playing out my tracks gives me the confidence to believe I’ll be next up.

Exron Music: Where does your passion to make music stem from? And what’s the thing (or things) that keeps you going each day?

Gl0bal: My passion for music started from a young age, I was obsessed with the drums (played for 8 years) and always wanted to be a drummer funny enough. So that never really died, and I still plan to get myself a new kit once I build my studio. I love to make people dance which is why I enjoy DJing so much and with regards to music production, it’s fun to create art that can shape someone’s mood in a positive way. I feel like I have a story tell and this is how I am doing it.

Exron Music: The production side of your craft is clearly pristine, which is evident through all the support you’ve garnered. Where do you see the DJ side of your career heading?

Gl0bal: Thanks! I see my DJ career heading towards more shows (once this COVID-19 stuff is handled) and providing me with a bigger light to tell my story.

Exron Music: What’s one of your biggest long-term goals?

Gl0bal: One of the biggest long term goals would be to perform at a festival like Coachella.

Exron Music: Having fans and gaining traction in this profession is a big responsibility. What kind of impact do you hope to make in the industry?

Gl0bal: I hope the impact I make on the industry one day is extremely positive and I hope that I am able to encourage self-belief on a max scale

Exron Music: Your previous work features an arsenal of collaborations. Do you have any collabs in the making? Are there any artists you’re hoping to work with in the future?

Global: I have a Flux Pavilion remix pending at the moment, in terms of artist I hope to work with in the future. I’m really not picky that way, but I would say I wouldn’t mind having a DJ snake & Excision remix under my belt in the near future!

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!

What's your reaction?
