TICKETMASTER REFUND POLICY WILL NOW EXCLUDE POSTPONED EVENTS
With no end in sight to the COVID-19 pandemic, events are frantically canceling and moving dates to the fall. That goes for festivals and shows alike—many are hopeful that their event can still take place in 2020. If you’ve made any purchases through Ticketmaster, you may want to look again at their refund policy.
A big issue that surrounds canceling and moving events is whether or not people will get their money back. Some festivals such as Ultra were unable to refund ticket holders, instead offering a ticket for the following year along with a generous amount of benefits. In many cases, customers are left wondering whether or not their money is gone for good.
While some events are giving ticket holders the option to either take the rain check or get the refund, others are not. Since Ticketmaster is backed by Live Nation, many customers were sure they were safe. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Digital Music News was first to notice the change. Their recent article states, “In responding to this unprecedented cluster of repayment requests, Ticketmaster has quietly changed its refund policy to cover only canceled events — not the many functions that promoters have indefinitely “postponed” or rescheduled to a date/time that some ticketholders cannot make.”
So, if your event is postponed or rescheduled, it is no longer eligible for a refund. Now, refunds will only be available if your event is canceled, per the updated policy.
Customers have already proved to be outraged over the news. Many have taken their concerns to social media, but others have gone further. DNM goes on to mention, “Earlier this week, Digital Music News was the first to report that an angry customer had filed a class-action lawsuit against ticket-resale platform StubHub, over the brand’s opting to provide vouchers (instead of cash refunds) for tickets to events canceled because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.”
