Coachella Production Companies Re-Direct Attention to Providing Aid During COVID-19
Although most of the music industry has taken a hit right now, with estimated losses in the scope of 10-20 billion, many production companies have rapidly adapted to new demands. Choura Events CEO & founder Ryan Choura reallocated his company’s mission and force, from building Coachella to building triage tents for potential Coronavirus patients in Los Angeles, California. Not only did Choura salvage hundreds of jobs, making sure to keep his employees working during this subsequent financial crisis, but he also became part of LA’s galvanization against COVID-19. “We pivoted so fast to being a rapid-response disaster relief team. If I didn’t know how to do Coachella, I couldn’t do this hospital,” commented Ryan Choura.
Amazingly, Choura Events wasn’t the only entity to pitch in during this time of need. Gallagher Staging, the L.A. firm slotted to build Coachella’s 2020 main stage, also began impromptu hospital construction, and the L.A./Chicago-based company Upstaging started crafting face-masks and protective shields with plans to disseminate them to elderly homes, prisons, and hospitals. In the wake of financial turmoil, job displacement, and disease, the music industry saves the world yet again in unforeseen, innovative ways.
