FERRY CORSTEN COMMENTS ON POSITIVE EFFECTS CORONAVIRUS MAY HAVE ON EDM

In a recent interview with The National, trance icon Ferry Corsten makes some enlightening comments. Rather than focusing on the negative, which has become far too since the coronavirus (COVID-19) madness began, he looks at the positive.

With show cancellations and festival postponements, it’s easy to see how the EDM world may be suffering. However, there are many ways in which it is growing as well. He gives fans some insight into his thoughts on the matter as he’s isolated with his family at home in Holland.

Corsten tells The National, “With all that traveling and performing there was the growing sense that we were all invincible. But looking at it now, with some distance, you understand that what is happening at the moment is a reality check,” he says. “That’s very important because for many of us who are constantly working you become part of this big bubble and when something like this virus happens and everyone is staying home, you realise that entertainment is not the first priority.”

The inspiring artist reminds fans how crucial it is to take a step back and look at what’s really important to us in this life. Although reality may not be pretty, sometimes we need to face the truth to see clearly. To Corsten, family is one of those things that truly matters in life. Surely, many of us can say the same to be true.

In addition to family time, Corsten is also dedicating this time to focus on his music. He claims that this time in isolation has allowed him to see some creative benefits as well. His album As Above So Below has gained its final touches while the artist has been at home. Notably, it serves as his debut ambient music album.

Corsten speaks on the album to The National, which was released under his side project, FERR, “That’s the thing about it that’s kind of funny. It was an album I was working on whenever I was home. I wanted to create music that calms me down. And the fact that it is out now, when everyone is home, is perfect timing.”

We can’t agree more than the release of As Above So Below is in perfect timing. Listen to the calming melody of the new album below.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
