ULTRA AND NOW TOMORROWLAND WINTER CANCELLED IN LIEU OF CORONAVIRUS
In light of the recent Coronavirus (COV-ID19) outbreak, the EDM industry seems to be taking a hit. Just yesterday, Ultra Music Festival which was set to take place March 20-22 has been cancelled. Since the announcement, speculation over various other festival cancellations have run rampant.
Tuesday night the Miami’s Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez issued the following statement.
We’re not canceling any major events in Miami-Dade County, such as Ultra, following the guidance from Florida’s Surgeon General on #Coronavirus.

The Coronavirus concerns are clearly escalating quickly. Many citizens of Miami and the state of Florida have responded to this statement, expressing concern about allowing the event to go on.
However, Miami city officials held a meeting early Wednesday to discuss whether or not the festival would move forward at the end of the month. In conclusion, the council called for the festival to be postponed due to the current Coronavirus circumstances. It’s just too early to tell how much of a threat the virus will be in the coming weeks. Not to mention, Ultra is a festival that attracts attendees from all over the world.
Furthermore, Ultra also cancelled it’s Abu Dhabi festival scheduled to take place this week. There have been rumors of additional festivals being cancelled as well. With major U.S. festivals scheduled in the coming months such as EDC Las Vegas, Electric Forest, and many others, it’s hard to say if the canceling and postponing will continue. Okeechobee Music Festival is still scheduled to take place this weekend in Okeechobee, Florida. At this point in time, it is unclear how Miami will continue with handling Miami Music Week.
Now Tomorrowland Winter has announced that they will also be cancelling their March event, leading us to believe that festival season 2020 might not be happening after all. This is an unprecedented chain of events and absolutely worrisome for music fans everywhere. Buku Music + Art Project has announced their event will stay on, and hopefully the virus will subside so that festival season will continue normally. The cut in financials to the industry will be substantial and detrimental.
