SHAQ PAYS TRIBUTE TO KOBE BRYANT AT BASS ALL-STARS EVENT IN NYC

The 47 year old, 15 time NBA All Star and 4 time NBA champion Shaquille O’neal has not limited his legendary career to just basketball. He’s an actor who has appeared in countless commercials and several big screen feature films and was a rapper who already released 6 albums. So Shaq is definitely no stranger to the bright lights and now he’s been trying to take over the dj scene as the self proclaimed biggest DJ in the world. Standing at 7’1 and weighing over 300 lbs who dares to dethrone him of that title.

The show opened nicely with ETC!ETC! as Avant Gardner started to get packed. Wuki and Nitti Gritti came out and the energy from then on catched like wildfire. Around 12AM 4B took the stage and he really just created an incredible vibe throughout the night, concocting a mix of dubstep, trap, and jersey club that kept surprising at every turn.

When Shaq entered the building and walked through crowds of people to get on stage, it was apparent no one was even close to his size as he towered over people and walked slowly soaking in the moment and letting the fans feel his presence. DJ Diesel would go on to play a neck breaking dubstep set that went on a sweltering pace. Throughout the show he prompted the crowd to open up the pit for some crazy mosh pits. No matter how tired people were the crowd answered his call and raged.

With an emphasis on his basketball background with lightning engulfed glowing basketballs and rims to a hilarious animation of a floating Shaq head shooting red lasers out of his eyes, the imagery was both beautiful and hilarious. Halfway through his set he honored his good friend and former teammate the late and great Kobe Bryant to a mix of Light by San Holo and All of The Lights by Kanye and Rihanna. Diesel mixed up his set by playing slower classics like; “Better Off Alone”, “Heaven”, “Everytime We Touch”, before transitioning to hard dubstep tracks.

Overall this was an insane show, Shaq has translated all his past experience as an athlete, an actor, and a rapper to create a monstrous performance and aura on stage as DJ Diesel. He is skilled but what makes the experience so special is because, well for a lack of better words, its freaking Shaq. His energy and persona on stage as a result is unmatched, and it’s hard to come out of this show without being a little bruised, battered, and drained but that made it all the more enjoyable and worthwhile.
