Whethan Teases Album Release With Single – [Listen]
In January of 2020, prolific industry producer Whethan released the first precursory single, Stay Forever (feat. STRFKR),” to his highly-anticipated album titled “FANTASY.” Less than a month later, Whethan dropped yet another teaser to his album, a track available via Big Beat/Atlantic Records. The full-length album will be released in Spring of 2020 where it will coincide with limited headline tour dates, notably alongside fellow music producers Chrome Sparks and Ramzoid.
This second single, “All In My Head (feat. grandson),” showcases an alternative rock sound. The track is punk yet minimalist, featuring steam-lined electric guitar refrains and steady drums. Although the track’s punk edginess is both palpable and noteworthy, the lyrics steal the spotlight. Pensive and poignant, cheeky and youthful – they give cause for introspection. Toward the end of the song the vocalist buzzes, “There ain’t no arrival, no destination. Nothing’s gonna free me from my imagination. There ain’t no finish line, no door to open, that’s gonna berate me from my sense of broken.” The last line, “berate me from my sense of broken,” reads like ironic prose, suggesting beratment can shoo away emptiness or rather beat the emptiness out of us – how curious a thought and how wild a sentiment, both violent and passive. Assuming this is taste of the full album, we look forward to the floodgates of lyrical complexities coming in March.
