NGHTMRE and Tory Lanez Drop Eerie Cross-Genre Track “Wrist”
Toronto’s Tory Lanez, although primarily grounded in R&B/hip-hop (i.e. “Chixtape V,” the latest instalment in the Chixtape series, “Memories Don’t Die,” “I Told You,” etc.), just dropped a cross-genre track with EDM staple artist NGHTMRE. The track, titled “Wrist,” features Tory’s unsettling cadence, a pulse motivated by his dark, palpable masculinity. Tory’s strengths include an ability spit savage bars, verses that are as lyrically exceptional as they are melodic. In the past, Tory has proven to work well with select EDM creators, as seen with “In For It,” production by R.L. Grime.
Both Tory and NGHTMRE are no strangers to collaborations – Tory’s list of features includes Future, Drake, Chris Brown, Snoop Dogg, Trey Songz, Lil Wayne etc., while NGHTMRE’s includes Gunna, PnB Rock, Wiz Khalifa, Dillon Francis, Zeds Dead, Flux Pavilion, among others. What makes “Wrist” a standout among the long list of collaborations is how effortlessly NGHTMRE captures Tory’s incredibly specific flow and style, while also complimenting it via his own nuanced heaviness. NGHTMRE, yet again, proves his proclivity for working with hip-hop artists, specifically ones with grit, with dissonance, with a sort of enflamed and primal carnage.
