Deadmau5 Cube V3 Had Jaw-Dropping Finish At Brooklyn’s Avant Gardner
The mouse-eared EDM behemoth took over New York Sunday in his final show of the tour. A diverse crowd clamored to see him and the latest iteration of the massive “Cube”.
Opening the show was Jay Robinson; playing a chill yet enjoyable deep house set. Then things quickly switched gears with New York’s very own Callie Reiff with her heart pumping bass music, and drum playing in between songs. The openers played their sets on a small table next to the Cube and even though it wasn’t turn on yet you could see its massive shape in the darkness.
The creation of such a technical and artistic piece of work could only be possible through Joel’s obsession with technology, attention to details, and his hyper focused vision. As the show started to begin and the lights on the cube turned on you could sense a collective restlessness in the crowd as the anticipation of the show built up.
The cube came to life, as the three panels illuminated and moved in unison to display beautifully crafted 3D imagery, dynamic shapes and colours, video game footage, and plenty of memes. The cube would tilt forward almost within arms distance of the front row, and throughout the night it timely rotated revealing him and his iconic green lit mau5head.
As the night went on he played some of his biggest tracks including, “I remember,” and “Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff”. Halfway through the 2-hour set Canadian singer Lights came out and brought an incredible performance and a refreshing change of pace as the crowd sang “Raise Your Weapon” in unison with her.
His set was comprised of a good mix of different EDM genres and some Deadmau5 classics. Amplified by top tier production, this show was a spectacle and an exercise of true creative and technological mastery. It’s hard to imagine how he’ll top Cube V3 but knowing Deadmau5, he’s probably already working on the next thing to entertain our eyes and our ears.
