MAT ZO MAKES RETURN TO ANJUNABEATS WITH ‘THE NEXT CHAPTER’ – [LISTEN]

Mat Zo returns to the Anjunabeats label for the first time since his No Words EP back in 2018. This time, he’s delivered a fresh new single titled ‘The Next Chapter’ featuring GQ. As an artist who’s not tied down to a single genre, his new track represents a return to the darker side of trance music.

The track leads in with a menacing beat, building up to an infectious drop. Subtle chimes, a feisty percussion, and a forbidding bassline are fused to create an inescapable element of mystery. It’s no wonder ‘The Next Chapter’ was one of the most sought-after tracks from Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy 350 set.

The London-born producer offers his take on ‘The Next Chapter’, “There was a period in the mid-2000s when trance was starting to get really dark. For ‘The Next Chapter’ I wanted to rekindle that dark trance energy. I added the GQ sample (of him MCing at Westfest) because it reminded me of a drum and bass roller, but in trance form.”

Since he began his journey with Anjunabeats almost a decade ago, Mat Zo has dabbled in everything from drum & bass, ambient, electro and more. Although he’s most respected in the realm of trance, his soundscape knows no boundaries. Perhaps his most profound musical breakthrough was in 2013 when his debut album ‘Damage Control’ was released on Anjunabeats.

In addition to the single, Mat Zo will be embarking on his ‘The Next Chapter’ tour, touching down in the U.S. Canada. He will also be stopping in France for an Anjunabeats’ inaugural ski holiday, Anjunabeats elevations. For more information and to purchase tickets to this intimate event, visit their website.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
