EXRON END OF THE YEAR: TOP 10 DUBSTEP ALBUMS OF THE DECADE

This past decade has seen the rise of dubstep like no other. As electronic music continues to expand its audience, dubstep has been able to piggyback off its success. In fact, dubstep acts are securing main stage slots like never before. This past year, Excision’s kineticFIELD performance at EDC Las Vegas made headlines everywhere in the electronic music industry. We’d like to present to you the top full-length dubstep albums of the decade as a means to show our support for this epic movement.

1. O.M.G.! by Rusko (2010)

Although he took a long hiatus to (successfully) battle cancer, we will never forget Rusko’s initial contribution to the dubstep scene. O.M.G.! gave us “Woo Boost”, and for that we will forever be grateful. Also, we can’t forget that Gucci Mane is featured on this album.

2. Welcome Reality by Nero (2011)

Nero’s debut album, Welcome Reality will always be a favorite. Although it’s been nine years, we still can’t get tracks such as “Promises” and “Innocence” out of our heads.

3. Miracle by Blackmill (2011)

An unforgettable ode to melodic dubstep, Miracle came to life almost a decade ago. Although it definitely exhibits a different side of the genre than what we’re used to hearing played out, it’s a great way to demonstrate all of the different avenues dubstep has taken.

4. Can’t Sleep by Kryptic Minds (2011)

2011 was clearly a huge year for dubstep. Kryptic Minds hones in on a deep sub-bass sound to create this masterpiece, Can’t Sleep.

5. The Invasion by Destroid (2013)

There once was a time when Destroid changed dubstep forever. That epic project brought us The Invasion, a ten-track album that features multiple massive names in bass music.

6. Black Label XL Presented by SKisM (2015)

Black Label XL is the first release in a series of six total albums to date. Dubstep powerhouses like Trampa, SKisM (the mastermind behind the album), Trollphase, Badklaat and others are featured in the album. Never Say Die Records obviously deserved a spot on this list.

7. Virus by Excision (2016)

For the third successful year in a row, Excision has put on an entire music festival dedicated to dubstep. However, before Lost Lands ever happened he released Virus which featured songs like “Throwin’ Elbows”, ‘The Paradox”, “Harambe”, and “G Shit”. The album also explores  various elements of melodic dubstep.

8. Circus Three Presented by Doctor P & Flux Pavilion (2016)

Circus Three features OGs like Flux Pavilion, Diskord, Doctor P, Cookie Monsta, Funtcase, and many others. It showcases the very epitome of contemporary dubstep and the energy it amasses.

9. The Origins by Ganja White Night (2018)

The 2018 release of The Origins set new standards for wobbly bass music. All twelve songs on the album embody the evolving shape dubstep has taken in the later part of the decade.

10. Dogma Resistance by RIOT (2019)

This ten-track album is packed with heat. There’s no doubt that LA-based duo RIOT is helping to shape the future of dubstep for the upcoming decade. Plus, Dogma Resistance is even accompanied by a comic book. Talk about revolutionary.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!

What's your reaction?
