Collaborations are the name of the game in electronic music, and one of the biggest of late has to be Wax Motif and Matroda’s “Lose Control”, created from samples of the OG lyrics “music makes you lose control” by Missy Elliott. As two artists with complementary visions, this collaboration hit a sweet spot of talent and creativity. Inspired by the release, we figured there was more we needed to know about these two highly interesting individuals.
Check out our exclusive interview below:
Exron: What is the biggest factor in determining releases for your ‘Divided Souls Records’ Label?
Wax Motif: Anything really, as long as they’re tracks I would play in my sets.
Exron: What made you want to collaborate with Matroda on your newest single “Lose Control”?
Wax Motif: Matroda is dope, I play a bunch of his stuff so when he wanted to collab, I was down.
Exron: “Lose Control” has samples from some classic Missy Elliott lyrics. What made you both decide to use this in the creation of the single?
Wax Motif: We tried a bunch of different options and it was just the thing that had the most vibe at the end of the day.
Exron: Did you both get together in the studio to produce ‘Lose Control’ or did you have to work together remotely due to touring?
Wax Motif: Yeah, we met up a bunch of different times over the space of a few months and eventually wrapped it up.
Matroda: We produced the song at Wax Motif’s studio in DTLA during the summer of 2019. I started the idea and showed it to Wax..The rest is history.
Exron: You’ve been touring quite a bit this fall and recently hinted that you’ll be dropping another tour announcement shortly; can you tell us anything about this?
Matroda: Yes, I’m doing special venues/cities early 2020 as a part of my new tour called ‘TERMINAL UNDERGROUND’.
Exron: Summer 2019 was a big season for your music career. What do you think was the most important moment for you as an artist in the past 6 months?
Matroda: It’s kinda hard to pin out one moment. Being able to sell out my LA show was a nice one, touring with Tchami was also dope, but for me to be able to release the music I want is the most important thing for me.
Exron: Can we hope for some more Wax Motif and Matroda collabs in 2020?
Wax Motif: For sure
Matroda: WaxTroda gang on the way
