EXRON EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: GAMMER

We recently caught up with Gammer in the midst of touring with RIOT and Toyko Machine for the Monstercat Uncaged Tour. He closes the year out on a high note with the release of new track ‘Brostep Strikes Back’ and huge headlining performance at Hollywood Palladium. Read the full exclusive interview below for exciting insight into the life of Gammer.

Exron Music: Currently you are on Monstercat Uncaged Tour with RIOT and Toyko Machine. Can you tell us about your relationship with these artists and how it aids to your performances on tour together?

Gammer: Riot and Tokyo Machine are just good guys. Plain and simple. Some of the nights have ended up with them both twerking behind me while I’m playing, and sometimes I just play their shit at the end of my set and we all rage together.

I’m sure a spontaneous back to back is in the works.

Exron Music: What are some of the pros and cons in regards to touring for you?

Gammer: The obvious cons are dealing with lots of flights, airports and hotels. You know the traveling is tiring, but I often check myself and remind myself this is all for the greater good of what I want to do!!! I’m living my dreams.

Pros? Getting to perform. It’s what I live for.

Exron Music: We love your new track ‘Brostep Strikes Back’. Can you tell us a little bit about the song and the inspiration behind it?

Gammer: Yeah it’s a fun and classic style dubstep drop. I wanted to do something simple and energetic as opposed to the now-standard, heavy riddim style drops. I’ve nothing against that sound, but I’m also chasing something that’s sonically refreshing and stands out in a set.

Look, it’s a fun, obnoxious track that works on the floor. It’s very functional.

Exron Music: What has been one of your favorite releases during your career and why is it special to you?

I’d say it was a track called ‘You & I’ that I wrote with my good friend Darren Styles. It was the first point where I feel we could start to blur the lines between the traditional happy hardcore sound and the more current techniques of EDM (at least at the time) – something that could exist in both worlds.

Also, it was the first track I wrote with Darren Styles and he’s still my favourite DJ and producer sooooooooo…

Exron Music: You recently posted on Twitter that you were “deleting all my demos and starting again from scratch.” Can you give us a little insight into your creative process and how it is ever-changing?

Haha….yea

I’ve been stuck in a rut lately. It’s more than just ‘writers block,’ but also the generic way I’ve been approaching the process of creativity – You sit down, you open your software, you randomly write stuff hoping something will happen. In the end I’m left with hundreds of just ‘okay’ ideas with little to no direction. I have way too many sample packs and projects and I’m losing focus. So I guess I’m excited about the idea of stripping back to down to basics and reducing myself to my RAW skill. Idk

Exron Music: That’s great! We love keeping up with your new music and endeavors. Do you have any upcoming Gammer news you can share with us?

Yes! I am headlining the Hollywood Palladium on Saturday, December 14th. I have music coming with Yellow Claw and Steve Aoki. Idk life is pretty swell.
