HERE’S HOW EXCISION’S LOST LANDS MADE THIRD YEAR THE BEST ONE YET

Lost Lands Festival returned to Legend Valley in Thornville, Ohio for its third successful year in a row. Excision’s very own music festival exceeded all of our expectations, creating a weekend of stellar production and performances. A weekend of bass music, friendship, and our favorite food vendors made it one to remember.

Following suit to its legendary prehistoric theme, this year saw even more life-size dinosaurs than ever before. Scattered through the festival grounds were these gentle giants, with the famous long-necked dino returning at the main stage, Prehistoric Paradox. Legend Valley was carefully transformed into a jurassic adventure, this time with much more attention to detail and the overall setting. Not to mention, shorter security lines and improved campgrounds made for smoother experiences.

One of the most popular upgrades to this year’s edition of the festival were the new sound camps. Instead of in the campgrounds, the late-night sets were held within the festival grounds. Five unique stages showcased some of the hottest names in dubstep, including Wenzday, Calcium, Subdocta, Dubloadz and Phiso. Just because the main stages were closed down after midnight, that didn’t mean the party was ending. In addition to the sound camps, many of the food vendors were still open, and art installations were always waiting to be explored.

Speaking of art installations, a favorite this year was the Cavern of Illusions. This mind-bending dome allowed attendees to lay down underneath it and watch the show of a lifetime. A full 360 degree audio-visual experience featuring the art of Android Jones transported you to another dimension. It was a great place to open your mind and relax in the midst of the hectic festival atmosphere.

Prehistoric Paradox got even bigger and better this year, with two massive screens on either side of the main screen. Attendees basically had a perfect view of the stage from just about anywhere. Not to mention, the lasers were phenomenal. Even as it poured down rain on the final night of the festival, the show continued with full force. It was magical to watch Spag Heddy go b2b with Slander under the spell of the rain and the moonlight.

Notable performances throughout the weekend were Liquid Stranger, 12th Planet, Ganja White Night, Subtronics and Downlink. Excision played a remarkable two hour set on Friday night, followed by a detox set and a b2b with Illenium on Sunday. Many attendees claimed the b2b to be a favorite of the entire weekend. The artists closed out their set by unveiling a brand new collab that had never been heard before.

Overall, Excision flawlessly executed the best year of Lost Lands to date. With unforgettable performances by the biggest names in dubstep on top of an extraordinary level of production, its nicknamed the dubstep super bowl for a reason. Incorporating head-splitting dubstep, melodic dubstep, and even some fun bass house, Lost Lands hit all of the right spots.  It’s pretty obvious that Excision loves to makes improvements, so next year’s gathering in Legend Valley is definitely something to keep on your radar.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
