Exron Music: What inspired you to take your solo journey with the Gerry Gonza project? What do you love most about creating music?

Gerry Gonza: Realizing that making your dreams come true doesn’t mean you’ll be happy. I had everything that I wanted in the palm of my hands but something didn’t feel right. I felt there was more to my journey. That there was more inside of me as an artist and as a person that needed to come to the light. It was the immense desire to be the absolute best version of myself and knowing that the path I was on was not the way I would reach my true potential. I love realizing the beauty of the world and life when I make music. Basking in the beauty of the process of creation. Seeing something come together out of thin air, from inspiration and love. From the depths of the heart and soul.

Exron Music:What was the favorite part about your set at Electric Zoo?

Gerry Gonza: I really enjoyed singing Dom Dolla’s “You” as well as performing my own music live and people having a good reaction to it. It was the first time I performed “You” and I was so nervous about forgetting lyrics but it went well! Adding new things to the set can be a little scary sometimes but ultimately I know you just need to go for it and I was happy people liked it. I also very much enjoyed seeing so much Ship Fam! This group of people hold a special place in my heart. They’ve allowed me the space to truly express myself as an artist and a person and to have them there supporting me made my day.

Exron Music: It’s been about three years since you released the remix of Destructo’s track “4 Real”. Tell us what it has been like to come full circle and collaborate with him on the tracks “Rubber Band” and “Shots To The Dome”.

Gerry Gonza: It’s been surreal to not only be working with people like Destructo that have been huge inspirations to me but to now see them as friends as well. When Destructo and I spend time making music and hanging out, its so great because were just doing our thing and being real people with each other. That’s been one of the most awesome parts about this journey. Realizing every person is just a person no matter the journey. Everyone has ups and downs and were all just trying to do our best.

Exron Music: What kind of message or vibe do you strive to create for your fans?

Gerry Gonza: Acceptance. A vibe of acceptance and love. The message of unity. The message of equality. A vibe of balance and whole-hearted expression of the body and mind.

Exron Music: You’ve had a lot of releases on the Confession label including a collaboration with Malaa. What are some aspects that you enjoy about Tchami and the Confession vision as a whole.

Gerry Gonza: I see Tchami as a bridge. He’s connecting younger crowds to underground influences, music and culture. The releases on the label are definitely still in the Future/Bass House realm but they are much more oriented to the underground sounds which makes me happy because that makes more room for different styles and exposes people to music they may not be aware about.

Exron Music:What are you looking forward to most about supporting Bijou on his fall tour?

Gerry Gonza: Seeing new cities, spending time hanging out with BIJOU and all of our friends coming to the shows, playing my live set and really getting comfortable with it, and also looking forward to wearing a tiara during the shows! Its the crown tour so it feels like the move.

Exron Music: Can you tell us about some goals you have for yourself and your music for the next year?

Gerry Gonza: I’ve been doing so much soul searching in the past months and I feel its time to move on to the music I’ve truly wanted to make. It unfortunately is not Future/Bass House but House, Techno and Soul. When I started the project, it was meant to be a House and Techno project but with the release and success of “Bad Bitches”, I decided to take time to continue contributing to Future/Bass House as well as develop my production skills and understanding of House and Techno. Don’t get me wrong, Future/Bass House will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s been some of my favorite music that I’ve done and its led me to live my “electro dreams” of playing heavy music and watching people go crazy jumping up and down. With that said, I feel that part of me fulfilled. I feel the time is right to make my transition. My goals for next year is to focus on my songwriting and production and to do both at my highest capacity. To release music on my label GOATS and work on signing onto other labels oriented more toward my new style. My goal is also to stay focused and to try to not let life get in the way as much. To stay happy and productive and grateful for every part of this journey. I know this new cycle might not be easy or quick but with every cycle comes renewal and opportunity and I look forward to the experiences that are to come.

We can only expect promising things for the future of Gerry Gonza.
