ELECTRIC ZOO: EVOLVED SELLS OUT WITH OVER 100K ATTENDEES
Electric Zoo: EVOLVED returned for their eleventh year in operation, right in the heart of New York City on Randall’s Island. The festival took place over Labor Day Weekend, inviting 50 international and world-renown DJs to perform to over 107,000 eager fans. Electric Zoo happens to be NYC’s largest and longest running electronic music festival, due to immaculate production quality, phenomenal lineups and a guiding purpose to take care of their attendees in the way of experience, music and fun.
The mainstage took on the shape of those famous NYC skyscrapers this year, with beautiful LED screens boasting an alluring display of visuals overlooking the East River and the Manhattan skyline. This central local hosted a hefty list of influential and world-renowned DJs throughout the weekend, with timelessly memorable sets from Dog Blood (Skrillex :: Boys Noize), Above & Beyond, Diplo, Armin Van Buuren, ZEDD, Eric Prydz, Afrojack, Kaskade, and Alison Wonderland.
Gary Richards, aka DESTRUCTO, hosted the ALL MY FRIENDS STAGE throughout the weekend, where a phenomenal mix of house, deep house, trance and techno took flight. Performances from Malaa, Anti Up, Camelphat and Eric Prydz were packed with skill and energy, while Yotto, Jooris Voorn and Green Velvet threw down for a Saturday unlike any other. Brownies and Lemonade brought the bass on Friday featuring artists Getter, 4B and Yultron.
Each day of the festival, Hilltop Arena had something new and exciting to offer attendees. The infamous tent structure created an inclusive vibe for every set that was performed there. This stage was a direct representation of the diversity that Electric Zoo prides themselves in. Friday saw many bass and dubstep acts including Kompany, Liquid Stranger, Excision, and Ganja White Night. Electric Zoo and Hilltop Arena created a headbangers paradise that day. Hilltop Arena saw a complete musical transformation from Friday to Saturday. Eric Prydz took over to host the highly coveted Pryda Arena. Among the notable acts were Yotto, Joris Voorn, Green Velvet and of course a set from Eric Prydz himself. Hilltop Arena continued to show its versatility all the way through the end of the weekend. Sunday saw yet another transformation into the Gud Vibrations stage. Wavedash, Whipped Cream, 1788-L, GTA and SAYMYNAME warmed up the stage all day for Slander and NGHTMRE to close the festival out with a bang.
The Riverside stage was most unexpected stage of the weekend. Riverside proved that Electric Zoo can have high caliber stage production across the entirety of the festival. Although it may not have had the size of the main stage, the acts that performed here were some of the most memorable. The stage was hosted by California based Brownies & Lemonade on Friday and Seven Lions’ imprint Ophelia Records on Sunday. Brownies & Lemonade brought their typical party atmosphere to Electric Zoo with acts like Kittens, Nitti Gritti B2b Wuki, Yultron, and Getter. Saturday’s version of Riverside saw bass acts like Riot Ten, Bear Grillz, Cookie Monsta b2b Funtcase, and Flux Pavillion. The highly anticipated Ophelia Records hosted stage surely did not disappoint fans. Riverside saw stellar performances from Blastoyz, Dabin, Jason Ross, Said the Sky, and Kill the Noise. Finally, Riverside (and Electric Zoo) got the final performance that everybody deserved. Seven Lions poured his heart and soul into his closing set, including inviting his Ophelia family to join him on stage. Riverside saw massive success throughout the weekend between both Ophelia Records and Brownies and Lemonade.
Overall, Electric Zoo completely lived up to their promise of an evolved festival. Each year Electric Zoo continues the ongoing expansion and growth of the flagship New York City festival. The incomparable line ups, elite stage production, and overall hospitality are some of the many reasons why it’s become one of Exron Music’s favorite festivals. We can’t wait to see the festival evolve even further; the future of Electric Zoo remains bright and promising.
