Exron Exclusive Interview: Firebeatz
Last weekend we got the chance to catch up with Tim Smulders and Jurre van Doeselaar aka Firebeatz before their Boat Party in New York City. The sold out show was a pre-independence day party and the energy amongst the crowd was unmatchable. The Dutch duo has established themselves as a powerhouse in the realm of house music and everyone was ready for them to take the stage. We discussed everything from their new track with Sander Van Doorn, to their upcoming performance at Tomorrowland and finally some future plans for Firebeatz. Check out the full interview below.
Exron Music: How did the two of you meet and start creating music together?
Firebeatz: We met at school in 2008. We went to school for music production and during the first two weeks of class we were assigned to each other to work on a project and after that we just stuck together.
Exron Music: I love your new track Blowback with Sander Van Doorn. Can you tell me a little bit about the collaboration?
Firebeatz: Thanks! Well we already have two tracks with Sander already. The first one was ‘Guitar Track’, which was a huge record for us. We made the track ‘Rage’ as well with him. It was time for a new collab actually. I think this track goes back to our roots with some electro influences, a little techy. The song has a long build up and a lot of energy. It’s a great track.
Exron Music: What are you most excited for with your performance at Tomorrowland next month?
Firebeatz: We are working on a song with Nervo right now, so I’m really curious about how that’s going to fall with the crowd. We are finishing up, we’re almost there so that’s gonna be pretty cool. We also have a lot of new ID’s that we are ready to play as well. I mean, it’s Tomorrowland, it’s gonna dope as fuck.
Exron Music: What’s the most rewarding thing about collaborating with other artists?
Firebeatz: For us, it’s always important to click with whoever we are working with. It’s good to have a vibe going on between you. I think that’s the most important and to have fun while you are creating good music.
Exron Music: What are your most memorable tour experiences?
Firebeatz: We had a year where we collaborated with a lot of huge artists. So that year was pretty amazing for touring. We did a tracks together with Calvin Harris, Tiesto and Martin Garrix all in the same year. For us, it’s a year we are really proud of and was a great experience. We are probably never gonna have another year similar to that and to see the tracks come out in our DJ set, it was pretty amazing.
Exron Music: Can you tell me a little bit about your project Metafo4r with Dub Vision?
Firebeatz: We are always having fun with Dub Vision, we are always making fun of each other and teasing each other. We were thinking about making some music and doing some stuff together. They asked us to do a B2B session at Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas last year. We figured that we could make something more special rather than just four guys going b2b on stage. So then, we were like let’s make some new music. We rented a house for a week to use as a studio and we created more than thirty tracks together. We were all like fuck it, it’s a new style, let’s make this a new project.
Exron Music: Do you have any advice for aspiring music producers?
Firebeatz: We are seeing this a lot with new producers but basically take your influences when you were young and put that into your music that you’re creating right now. Don’t try to copy anybody, take your inspiration from hip hop or drum and bass or whatever you’re listening to and put that into your music you are making right now. Just be yourself and make stuff you like and don’t try to compare yourself to anybody else.
Exron Music: Can you share some goals that you have for the rest of 2019?
Firebeatz: To put out more bangers. That’s what we both have told each other. We had a phase where we left Spinnin’ and went to Armada and we were trying to make some more radio records, and that wasn’t really working out for us. So we thought about it a lot and we decided we both really want to put out club bangers, so that’s our goal right now. Besides that, just bring fantastic shows around the world and maybe work on an album soon. So yeah, those are some of our goals.
Firebeatz has been known for putting out incredible tracks and performances over the years. We can only expect great things to come from the Dutch duo. Stay up to date with all Firebeatz news here at Exron Music!
