ALOK + SEVENN TEAM UP FOR NOSTALGIC HIT ‘THE WALL’

Brazilian bass innovator Alok and American artist Sevenn have teamed up to a create groovy new hit, ‘The Wall’. This dance anthem samples the iconic lyrics “We don’t need no education!” from Pink Floyd’s classic ‘Another Brick In The Wall’. This marks the first release on Alok’s brand new Controversia label, which aims to place a special focus on ethnic beats.

Borrowing sound from pieces of musical history like Pink Floyd can be risky. As much as artists are eager to bridge generational gaps, it’s hard to pinpoint who fans can put their faith in. Alok and Sevenn made a bold move with ‘The Wall’, and we couldn’t be any more pleased. Spicing it up with a disco vibe and just the right amount of bass, this funky beat is the perfect way to jumpstart Controversia.

This track refuses to take no for an answer. ‘The Wall’ is also set to receive an official animated video clip made by Steve Cutts, a London-based animator and illustrator. His style is inspired by the cartoons of the 1930s and 1940s, as well as modern comic books and graphic novels.

“Releasing ‘The Wall’ as the first official music from my own label Controversia is arguably one of the most rewarding choices I could make.” Alok comments. “I’m constantly eager for music that leaves, somehow, a lasting impression on people’s lives and ‘Another Brick In The Wall’ is memorable for different generations. I’m so grateful for this opportunity and I’m sure there are a lot more to come. I’m passionate about the idea of helping others shine their own music and the goal of the label is to really strengthen people that I strongly believe in.”

Alok is definitely an artist we can trust when it comes to reworking the classics. In fact, Roger Waters himself gave the track his seal of approval. ‘The Wall’ has been rendered an official rework of the original. Plus, let’s not forget when Alok remixed ‘Gotta Get A Grip’ by Mick Jagger back in 2017.

A champion for versatility, Alok continues to stun us with his success. He leaves behind a dash of Brazilian bass everywhere he goes—and he’s been everywhere across the globe. ‘The Wall’ marks his ninth release of the year. With the new label underway, it certainly won’t be his last.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
