WHY SKRILLEX AT SECOND SKY FEST BROUGHT US BACK TO THE 2014 GOLDEN DAYS

The year 2014 was an impressive one for electronic music, some of the biggest names in music were absolutely murdering the game, putting out music that has remained classic in the 5 years since. 2014 was a year where those who enjoyed electronic music solidified their like into love and further into passion, and the music that artists generated was the perfect match to this commitment. 

Two mega-stars of electronic music, Porter Robinson and Skrillex were truly feeling their mayday in 2014, as they traveled the globe performing two of their most proficient albums to throngs of devotees.

In 2014 Porter released the ‘Worlds’ Album, which has since defied the boundaries of electronic music and completely transformed any misconstrued notions about the purpose of the electronic industry. The album single handedly changed the industry for good, and has left a long-standing impact on all of those who found it with an open heart.

In the same year, Skrillex debuted ‘Recess’, an album that is so true to Skrillex in style and composition. This album was highly anticipated at its time and did anything but disappoint upon its release. The music is hard-hitting and spectacularly produced, while fitting felicitously into the desired music of the year. After its debut, ‘Recess’ was played perpetually around the globe by all of those who cherish and respect Sonny as a pivotal member of the electronic community. In the same year, Skrill absolutely blew up on the scene in his duo project with Diplo, Jack Ü, as they released their chart-topping single ‘Take Ü There’. 

At Porter Robinson’s debut Second Sky Music Festival this past weekend, Porter announced that the special guest would not be in attendance, and instead the massive spherical mascot, also known at Potaro, would be DJing in his place. As DJ Potaro took the stage, he removed the mascot costume and revealed that Skrillex was hiding underneath. Skrillex then took the stage and blew out the stunned crowd with an hour-long Skrill extravaganza. 

The reunion of Porter Robinson and Skrillex on that stage was a monumental moment of recollection and reminiscence as we look back on those 2014 days where the mega-artists were building their brand and becoming the influential musicians that they are today.
