EXRON EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: BAYNK

We recently caught up with BAYNK before his set at Elements Music and Arts Festival in Lakewood, Pennsylvania to talk music, festival season, and the future of the BAYNK project. The New Zealand based producer is on a steep incline with his musical career as he gears up for an absolutely loaded festival season, celebrates the release of his sophomore ‘Someone’s EP II’, and the debut of his newest music video for track ‘go with u’. Catch up with everything BAYNK below:

Exron Music: You just dropped your newest single ‘go with u’ earlier this month and we love it! What was the inspiration for this song?

BAYNK: It was two different stories I’d written with this girl, and I’d already finished the chorus so she wrote the verses. Both of us were writing about finding someone special in our lives.

Exron Music: You also recently just put out your ‘Someone’s EP II’. How does it feel to have accomplished the Sophomore installment of the ‘Someone’s Series’?

BAYNK: It feels good! It feels like I did it like four months ago. It always happens where you’re waiting for the release day. I am glad that it is finally out so I can play some shows and write some new music. It’s been a year! When you write music for a project for so long you kind of get stuck in the sounds of that particular project and you don’t get to experiment as much.

Exron Music: In addition to playing at Elements earlier this month, you’ll also be performing at HARD, Lollapalooza and Life Is Beautiful later this summer. What is your favorite part of festival season?

BAYNK: Having big production! It’s expensive to do by yourself, having big screens, crazy lights and just being in a hoard of people. For me making music stemmed from going to festivals, I was obsessed when I was 18, 19 and 20. I would go to festivals in New Zealand and overseas that were amazing, and now I’m playing them. It’s surreal, but I would like to attend some again without being overly critical of production and performance.

Exron Music: What was your favorite part about your set at Elements?

BAYNK: I just loved seeing everyone have a great time. I’m never really worried about what I’m accomplishing on stage as long as everyone in the audience is enjoying themselves fully.

Exron Music: You recently performed at the Do LaB stage at Coachella; how was that experience?

BAYNK

BAYNK: It was amazing! The crowd was massive which was a lot of fun but it was super hot there! My laptop crashed twice during sound check. It was like 110 degrees!

Exron Music: In July you’ll be launching your Asia Pacific Tour. Being from New Zealand, how does playing in your home environment differ from other tour spots?

BAYNK: It’s more pressure. My friends are there and they’ll judge how I play more intensely than elsewhere. Here the crowds are receptive but it’s way more laid back in America than back at home.

Exron Music: What is your biggest goal with the BAYNK project for the rest of 2019?

BAYNK: I really want to release more music before the end of the year. I am a super perfectionist so it takes me awhile to put out something that I really love, but that is my main goal for 2019.
