DOG BLOOD RETURNS WITH MERCILESS EP ‘TURN OFF THE LIGHTS’

In the midst of a fierce comeback, Skrillex and Boys Noize have released a new EP as a part of their collaborative project, Dog Blood. ‘Turn Off The Lights’ is a four track EP embodying the soul of house and techno music.

Dog Blood signaled their revival from a long hiatus with multiple festival performances earlier this year. Now, they’ve managed to further manipulate the minds of fans through the release of this thrilling EP. The duo has even teased fans with these tracks in their most recent sets, leaving us hungry for more.

“BREAK LAW” is an energetic ode to our primal instincts. As the first track on the EP, it sets an unnatural, experimental tone. The vocals resemble a ghostly howl that ease us into a steady groove. At this point, we already know to let go of any expectations we may have for the remainder of the album. All we can do is stretch out our minds in preparation for what’s next.

Although it borrows the same quick pace as the rest of the collection, “4 MIND” resides in the mysterious, dark corner of the EP. Featuring producers Josh Pan and X&G, this track is hypnotic, forcing listeners down a more sinister avenue. Permitting the vocals to repeat on an eerie loop is maddening—it begs us to question the boundaries of our own minds. It’s both frightening and inviting. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

While exploring the EP’s next angle, we stumble upon “KOKOE”, a collaboration with producer Otira. This track juxtaposes the rest in it’s emotional investment. At over five minutes in length, a balanced hum softly slithers into the depths of our subconscious. That’s where the track’s sensation is really felt—in those moments where we become lost in a dark yet comforting abyss. Finally, without warning, we’re smacked with an irresistibly funky beat.

The final track on the EP and the title track, “TURN OFF THE LIGHTS” was originally released by Dog Blood as a single. It rapidly moves listeners through a space where sound knows no limits. The unpredictable blend of brief vocals and a sharp beat make a perfect tune for anxious dancing feet.

‘Turn Off The Lights’ draws us into the hidden world of Dog Blood’s beautiful insanity. With a touch of bass, this chaotic yet vibey sequence delivers us a fresh take on electronic music. Skrillex and Boys Noize have jumpstarted an exciting resurrection. Basically, this EP is just a window into the future of Dog Blood.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
