Illenium Drops New Single “Pray” Featuring Kameron Alexander

Illenium’s new track featuring Kameron Alexander is beautiful homage to the seamless way that EDM can blend multiple genres of music. The song starts with deep, country like vocals in both sound and theme then transitions into Illenium’s signature crashing waves of synths and drums. Let’s take a quick look at the lyrics:

“Lay my soul out bare by the river, mmm
Let my bridges burn and deliver me, mmm
Bring my soul back from the rhythm
Of the chains that got me here
It ain’t fair, no, it ain’t, mmm

Mercy, mercy, mercy
I’ve no luck with the man upstairs
Help me, help me, help me”

The song is about redemption and peace that someone can find in death. Laying someone down by or sending someone down the river is a common saying for death. The “chains that got me here” refers to making someone that has made some questionable choices and seeks to redeem himself or herself in the cleansing power of the river or death.
