Forbidden Kingdom Brought The Heat To South Florida
This past weekend Forbidden Kingdom Music Festival took over Sunset Cove Amphitheater for its inaugural year. This all bass music festival drew fans from all over the country to the sunny city of Boca Raton. All of the heaviest hitters in the dubstep scene made for an unforgettable two days.
Forbidden Kingdom consisted of a single main stage, making the festival conflict free as far as set times. Somnium Sound set the tone for the weekend on Saturday with a head-splitting performance, followed by Xie and then Hekler. As the sun peeked through the clouds, AFK, Dubloadz, and Downlink permitted attendees absolutely no mercy. Midnight Tyrannosaurus and Doctor P carried us through the sunset. Two brutal sets from Zomboy and Excision topped off Saturday night.
Excision brought his entire Apex Tour set up with him, including a bone crushing 225,000 watts of PK Sound. Fully equipped with lasers and high quality visuals, attendees got the full Apex Tour experience and more. Sunset Cove hosted Excision’s The Paradox Tour in 2018, but the venue has never seen anything quite as powerful as it did this past weekend.
SubDocta brought all the wobbles to kick off Sunday of Forbidden Kingdom. We even got the opportunity to catch up with him after his set. Check out the full interview here, where we talked about everything from new music to his festival experience.
With no time to recover, He$h had fans headbanging in the blazing heat. A special back to back performance by Kompany and Tynan, followed by Sullivan King, Squnto, Funtcase, Bear Grillz, and 12th Planet took us into dusk. A hardcore yet emotional set from Adventure Club was just what we needed toward the end of the night. To conclude the weekend, Dion Timmer and Excision went back to back to bring us a breathtaking final production.
Forbidden Kingdom didn’t stop here, there was also a silent disco set up by the lake. Notable performances were made by local artists such as Dubway, Terminal Velocity, and Universe Zero. In addition, one of our favorite special touches was the massive dragon positioned just above the main stage.
Although it was only the festival’s first year, Forbidden Kingdom exceeded our expectations. The sets ran smoothly and the atmosphere was unmatched. We can’t wait to see the festival thrive in years to come.
