Disco Donnie And Zoolu Turn 25 Marking Record Milestone For Dance Music
Disco Donnie and Zoolu are celebrating a huge milestone for dance music. The two are turning 25 this year, and to commemorate this anniversary the company will be returning to New Orleans where it all began and will be hosting Kaskade, Dillon Francis, Dieselboy and more.
Zoolu debuted in 1995 at the historic State Palace Theater, and was cleverly named after the Zulu Mardi Gras parade. The inaugural festival featured acts Mystic Bill, Terry Mullan, Reese, and Astroboy and marked the beginning of a huge wave for EDM. The festival became a large part of the Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans, adding electronic dance music to the city before the mainstream scene had any idea about the genre. The festival welcomed a plethora of famous faces throughout the years, from Hunter S. Thompson to Marilyn Manson. In 2015 Disco Donnie Presents created a partnership with the Metropolitan nightclub and this is where Zoolu has resided ever since.
“When Disco started, I didn’t know if we’d make it to the next event, so it’s crazy to think about Zoolu turning 25. I think that might be some sort of record — the longest running rave in the United States.” says Disco Donnie.
Disco Donnie has experienced a hate fire of backlash over the years throughout the war on drugs and anti-rave culture movements but he has survived the “Crack House” statute and the “RAVE Act” to be recognized as one of the most respected promoters in the live entertainment scene across all genres. Donnie has also been ranked among EDM’s 50 Most Important People by Rolling Stone Magazine.
