He has already released a few tracks off the Stay EP to get fans excited for the full release this Fall such as “Steele” and “Stay”.  We couldn’t be more excited to see the success this guy has coming his way. Check out the exclusive interview below!

Exron Music: What was the deciding factor for you to start producing electronic music or music in general?

DEVAULT: When I was 12 my brother came home with a DJ set and at the time it was a very new concept for me.  So he brought it home and I started playing around with it and I started diving into certain acts at the time like Kaskade, Deadmau5, and a few others. After that, I noticed I had a good personal taste in music so when I started mixing and doing edits I started realizing I could start making things that I was into. I just started diving into tutorials and videos and started really teaching myself.

Exron Music: How excited are you to release the full “Stay” EP and which track are you most proud of?

DEVAULT: Well, I am very excited, and it’s been a long time coming. It’s great because I built my name up by doing a lot of remixes and a few hit singles and that was really exciting. With my first big project I wanted it to be really symbolic and take a lot of inspiration from the 80’s. I’m so excited to get a full project out that tells my story and the music is meant for really intimate settings but also for energetic crowds too.

Exron Music: Which track from the EP are you the most proud of?

There’s a song on the EP called “Thinking of You” and its featuring this guy James from Nashville. It’s my favorite song on the EP and I wrote it down in the desert and it clicked so quick. After that James sent me a vocal in one take and it just matched perfectly and it came so natural. The track is very cinematic and a big vibe not meant to be a club track, it’s really introspective.

Exron Music: Who were your influences when you started to develop your own sound

DEVAULT: I took a lot of direct inspiration from an eighties band, Depeche Mode. They wrote a lot of gothic moody electronic music in the 80’s and I’ve been listening to all of their records like a psycho. In certain months they are the only thing I’m listening to and I’ll take direct inspiration from them to create my own sound. I love to pull sounds from the eighties, I mean I have a mullet too. I take a lot of inspiration from Flume and RL Grime as well, they were a big reason why I wanted to get into music.

Exron Music: What was your favorite thing about the Cookout Tour this summer?

DEVAULT: The Cookout tour was really interesting because we were all on different vibes. I had more of the chill vibe going, Noizu had the house vibe and GG Magree and Parker went really heavy. The dynamic of the shows were just really interesting. The best part was when we did this crazy b2b in Texas and it was super fun putting all of our styles together. The fans really enjoyed it also.

Exron Music: Who are some artists that you would enjoy collaborating with in the future?

DEVAULT: I’ve been really into the bedroom pop indie scene lately. A lot of my collabs on the EP are with indie artists. A current dream collaboration right now would be working with Blood Orange.

Exron Music: Do you have an interest to have a Devault live set in the future? Can we expect a tour in the future?

DEVAULT: After the EP comes out the tour that I’m announcing is going to be strictly live and that’s what I’m gonna be doing moving forward.  I truly want to do a set that’s exclusively Devault whether it’s unreleased music or mashing up some of my remixes and EP together.
